Characteristics Of A Solid Prospect

Have you ever had a prospect that looked really great and solid but then they turned out to be a complete disappointment?

In this post, you will learn about 3 key characteristics that qualify a good prospect.

There are many types of prospects out there. Some are fabulous, some are disastrous. Quite often, our upline will tell never to prejudge and just get everyone and anyone to a meeting, call or webinar and they will join once they hear about your amazing opportunity.

In my experience, it didn’t always work out that way.

It is YOUR business after all and you can choose who you want to work with and spend time on.

Small note here: You don’t know who might be interested in your opportunity, you shouldn’t prejudge people, be an equal opportunist. These characteristics are here to help you sort through your list and reach out to people who are more likely to join. You’ll understand more when you read further.

Here are 3 characteristics you should look for in a good prospect:

#1. Positive Attitude: I’ve had a few people react in a negative way when I reached out to them. One person asked me if this was ‘another one of those pyramid schemes’ and another person told me ‘her ex had joined XYZ [a legit mlm with 20+ years in business] and it was a pyramid and he never made money’ (Actually it was funny because my husband was with XYZ company and was making a residual income from them). I decided against introducing them to the business. Their attitude does not make them bad people and you could approach them at later time, however don’t waste time trying to convince people that your business opportunity is legit.

#2. Teachability: Is your prospect willing to learn and willing to accept change? I had a friend approach me and ask me multiple times about joining my team. However, they were not open to following a system and wanted to do things their own way. I had worked on a few project before with this friend and when things didn’t work out (as a result of not having a proper system in place) they ended up trying to blame everyone and started negative talking about the opportunity. Being willing to learn is a key factor in having success in your business.

#3. Solution: It’s important to know if your business opportunity solves a challenge that your prospect may be having. If your prospect doesn’t have the need, desire or pain point in their life, there is no motivating factor for them to join you. Furthermore, there are many people out there that can benefit from what you have to offer but they are stuck in the trap of being comfortable. They are hurting but not enough to take charge and make the changes necessary in their life.

Those are the 3 main characteristics to look for in a good quality prospect.
