3 Qualities Of A Good Leader
Either way, keep on reading because in this post I’m going to be covering:
3 Qualities of A Good Leader
- Don’t Let Your Past Affect Your Present
There are many people out their who tell themselves a very convincing story of why their past is holding them back from achieving their goals and dreams. I was definitely one of those people. Do you remember my article on excuses? (Click here to open in a new window). These are the stories about how we failed in the past, how we took a risk and it hurt, about how we put ourselves out there only to be shut down. All the reasons why in the past it didn’t work so let’s play in safe so we can avoid the pain of failure again. You know exactly what I’m talking about. When you look at the qualities of a strong leader, you will see repeatedly that they have come from backgrounds filled with failure, struggle and challenges that seem impossible to you and I. The past isn’t written in stone, there’s no one stopping you from re-writing it in YOUR mind.
Change the story you tell yourself and watch as your world changes around you.
- Embrace Change and Learn To Adapt
This past year, I have seen about 3 very large well established stores close down. Their reason? Due to the increase of e-commerce, people going online to buy stuff. They did not wish to adapt to the current trends and it drove them out of business. When I started in my home business, I followed the system that my up line recommended. But it was challenging as a parent to be able to go out and do meetings. I had to learn to adapt and find a way to make it work for me. You can learn more about my business by checking out my Work With Areefa tab (or Click here). My observation is that life will always throw curve balls in every aspect, personal and professional. It is entirely up to you how you deal with it. You can try to stick to your old ways or you can learn to embrace the change, make it your ally and adapt to any situation.
Old ways won’t open new doors.

- Take Failure in Stride
I was reading an interview with Sarah Blakely in Success Magazine. Sarah, the creator of Spanx a hoisery company has been named one of the 100 most influential people of the world (Time Magazine). Among other successful credentials, she was raised with an amazing outlook on failure. She told the story of how her father would encourage her and her brother to go out and fail at something every week. They would sit down and discuss it at dinnertime. It encouraged them to go out and try new things, put themselves out there, and not be discouraged by failure. She remembers that if they didn’t fail at something that week, their father would be slightly disappointed! What an incredible way to teach young people that failure is a part of life. When it comes to qualities of leaders, they have all learned to take failure in stride.
What does FAIL stand for? First attempt in learning.
When it comes to leadership, you may not feel like you’re ready to take on that role. And that’s okay. Success and leadership doesn’t happen overnight. Work on building yourself along with regular personal development (take a look at my article on planning your personal growth, click here) and you will succeed at becoming the leader you are meant to be.
